Who We Are

We are a brand new student group on Brown's campus called Brown Data Science. Our club is dedicated to helping students interested in data science or machine learning gain more real world experience by acting as a platform for students to work together on projects analyzing interesting data sets. We plan to create a data science community for undergrads by working with Brown's Data Science Initiative, taking advantage of Brown's computing resources, and working with professors to create independent studies for projects. We will also be hosting a DataFest (similar to a hackathon but data science specific!) this semester.

DataFest by American Statistical Association

ASA DataFest is a celebration of data in which teams of undergraduates work around the clock to find and share meaning in a large, rich, and complex data set. As a competitor, you will have the chance to win prizes, collaborate with some of the best mathematicians and designers at Brown, and eat delicious free food. That being said, you don't have to compete to be able to participate in our workshops, eat our food, or participate in our networking events with cool data scientists.

BDS members not only get to attend these events but they also get to interact one on one with these distinguished professionals from the industry and academia.
